Course curriculum

Animation is a wonderfully versatile activity that encourages and develops key soft skills that can be forgotten about in the contemporary classroom.

  • Team building
  • Problem solving
  • Hands-on creativity
  • Computational thinking
  • Storytelling
  • Planning
  • Sharing understanding creatively
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Creativity with technology
  • Using technology to produce rather than consume

Computer games, TV and Cinema are huge industries relying on animators. Most special effects in movies are a form of animation. Animation also exists within apps, on web sites, on our connected devices.

With animation we can tell a different kind of story, a story that would be hard or even impossible to tell using actors.

  • What films can you think of that use animated dinosaurs?
  • Which animated films, tell stories by bringing toys to life?
  • Can you think of a TV series that uses only animation?

The technology is becoming increasingly accessible to all ages and abilities. Many animation apps are free and the cameras on our mobile devices and tablets are very good. Post production is also possible, using apps like iMovie to add titles, music, a voice over and more.

There has never been a better time to explore animation, developing important soft skills; working as a team and collaboratively with others as well as telling stories, and using technology in a meaningful and creative way.
